Hi.  My name is Heather.  I’m a baker, cook, personal chef, caterer, dessert maker, serial hostess and mother of two in Arlington, Virginia (transplanted from the PNW).

Last year, I launched a business providing handmade custom pies to Northern Virginia.  Livin’ The Pie Life is the realization of a lifelong dream.  It’s all about the crust, Baby!  Check out the website to see our selection of seasonal pies.

My love of cooking originated as a love of dessert.  Sugar-junkie?  Yah, you betcha!  Over the years, I’ve developed a love for all foods (with a few exceptions) and I have a collection of tried and true recipes that I will be sharing.  I’m also constantly experimenting, so you get to see that too.

This site is a record of what I prepare for my family and friends.  I hope to inspire you to make something that you would normally buy or to try something that you might find a little intimidating.  With few exceptions, you just can’t match the variety, quality and cost-effectiveness of the food that you prepare yourself.

These are recipes that I like the way that I like to make them, but I encourage you to modify them to suit your taste.  Be brave and leave out those onions if you don’t like them, or add more sugar because that’s just how you roll!  Chances are it will be all the more delicious to you.  If it doesn’t work out, that’s between you and the garbage disposal or compost heap or whatever…I don’t judge.

  1. Hi there! Just came across your blog and am liking it a lot :) . Your PB chocolate rice krispies squares are something my boyfriend would kill for, so I’ll try it soon. Was already wondering whether the “Arlington” refers to Virginia or some other state? I’m curious because I live in Arlington, VA, and another blogger who lives in Baltimore and I were thinking of doing a meet-up sometime. It’d be nice to meet more foodies in this area. Take care!

Ahhh, makes me want to bake and buy an ice cream maker! Your pictures and directions are wonderful. Chris and I agree, he could successfully make these delicious treats following your clear descriptions.

I’ve added you to my favorites. My New Year’s Resolution this year was to make all my own pie crust, and figure out a good recipe for doing it. Your recipe and method are almost exactly what I have settled on as the best, and your emphasis on COLD is a great reminder.

Must stop drooling and get back to chores.

    Thanks for sharing!
